Coder Response Panel

This panel contains all of the uploaded responses for the the selected question. Drag and drop codes/nets from the Codeframe Panel to assign them to specific verbatim responses. In addition, right clicking on a response brings up an additional menu of actions.

Response Panel Header

The header of the response panel allows you to sort, filter, and toggle details on/off for responses.

General Options

Icon Description
Study Manager Return to the Study Manager section for the selected study
Response view Displays responses that are being Worked On, Completed, or All responses
Filter responses Applies the filter expression to the responses
Export responses Export the responses to a CSV file
Toggle select all Select or deselect all visible responses

Sort Options

Icon Description
Lock sort Locks the sort options for the responses
Default sort Sort responses by order loaded
Alpha sort Sort responses alphabetically
Respondent sort Sort responses by respondent
Sort by question Sort responses by question
Sort by response length Sort responses by length
Sort by # codes applied Sort respones by the number of codes applied to each response
Sort by # duplicates Sort responses by the number of exact duplicates

Filter Options

These options are used to filter the responses visible on the screen.

Icon Description
Filter Lock Locks the filters for the responses.
Question Filter Toggle questions being coded on/off
Notes Filter Filter the responses by those that have notes, have QC notes, do not have notes, or by specific notes
Tags Filter Filter the responses by those that have tags, do not have tags, or by specific tags
Users Filter Filter the responses by all users, specific users, or responses not claimed
All Response Filter Displays all filters applied to responses
Clear Filter Clears all response filters

Actions

These are actions applied to responses.

Response Panel Details Show/Hide extra columns for each response. Details
QC Mode Toggle QC Mode on/off
Toggle expression match Show/Hide underline of code expression matches for each response
Toggle duplicate mode Toggle duplicate mode on/off
Mark responses as completed Mark all selected responses that have codes applied as completed
Response actions Opens the Response Actions toolbar for all responses

Response Detail Options

These options are used to show/hide relevant detail for each response.

Respondent ID Toggle respondent ids on/off
Related Responses Toggle related responses on/off

Notes Toggle notes on/off

QC Mode Options

Clicking the QC button displays the QC menu with the following features. Because of limited space, other response header options may be hidden when the QC menu is active. Click the QC button again to exit QC mode and display these hidden options.

Icon Description
Active QC mode Indicates QC mode is active
Active QC drawer Opens a Codeframe issues panel where problems with duplicate code names, duplicate code values, or inconsistent assigned codes are displayed
Active QC details Opens a menu to toggle selected responses as QC checked or not, as well as display responses based on their QC status
Active QC counts Displays counts of current responses that have been QC checked or not

Response Actions

Additional actions that can be applied to individual responses.

Icon Description
Respondent details Displays respondent details
Coder Allows a coder to claim or unclaim the response
Verbatim translation Open the translation dialog to create a translation for this response.
Assign Tags Open the Set Response Tags dialog to select tags or create a tag to assign to the response.
Set A Note Open the Add Response Note dialog to add notes and review existing notes for the response.
Mark As Completed Mark the response as completed.

Response Context Menu

Right click on a response to access the actions available in the context menu.

Remove all response codes Remove all codes assigned to response
Create code from entire verbatim Use the full verbatim text to create a new code
Select text for various actions Open the word selection mode to select text for various actions
Set Response Color Flag Open the Select Color for response flag dialog to select or clear the color flag
Apply a tag to this response Open the Assign Tag dialog to select existing tags or create a new tag to assign to the response

Select Text for Various Actions

When you open the Select text in the verbatim to perform various actions mode, the verbatim text area updates to show a word selection cursor and shows the action buttons below.

Only the word "use" is selected here.

Action Buttons

Action can be taken on the entire verbatim or the selected words from the verbatim if they are selected.

Button Description
Cancel Exit the word selection mode
Create Code Create a new code from the selected text and open the Code Editor dialog to make any additional changes.
Show Codes In the Codeframe Panel, show codes containing the selected text.
Show Verbatims Show all responses containing the selected text.
